Coffee 101 at Le Bistro Cafe
I was one of the lucky ones that was invited to attend a Coffee 101 Seminar that was conducted by Ms. Chit Juan. To be really honest I am not a big fan of Coffee but Philbert is. We have been together for 10 years and I still haven’t caught the Coffee Bug. Another ironic fact is that I used to help my mom with her small coffee shop and I know how to brew coffee using the Espresso machine and I still didn’t drink coffee. It was a really informative talk because It gave me an insight on the process of how Coffee is being produced. In our restaurant we support the local farmers and we really do buy Philippine coffee.
Here’s a bit of trivia that I learned during the workshop. I just wanted to share a brief history of how coffee was discovered.
Coffee was first discovered in Northern Africa in an area we know today as Ethiopia. A popular legend refers to a goat herder by the name of Kaldi, who observed his goats acting unusually frisky after eating berries from a bush. Curious about this phenomena, Kaldi tried eating the berries himself. He found that these berries gave him a renewed energy. The news of this energy laden fruit quickly spread throughout the region. Monks hearing about this amazing fruit, dried the berries so that they could be transported to distant monasteries. They reconstituted these berries in water, ate the fruit, and drank the liquid to provide stimulation for a more awakened time for prayer.
We were even given a chance to be a barista and create our concoction. I do encourage everyone to join the workshops. Get to know the world’s favorite drink even more.
The small gathering was held at LE BISTRO is a novel concept in casual dining. It is located at Fraser Place in Salcedo Village. Le Bistro offers a special sustaina
ble food menu which ensures that food products support earth-friendly initiatives and help sustain local farmers.
I really think that it would be perfect to hold meetings and Christmas parties at Le Bistro specially if you work within the Salcedo Village area. The function room overlooks the main dining area. The main dining room seats over 30 people but is also perfect for stand up cocktails for 60 people or more. The function room can fit up to 2 meetings held simultaneously or a medium size gathering of 30 people. There is outdoor seating for those who wish to enjoy al fresco seating.

Before the small gathering ended our host gave us tokens and I was surprised to know that ECHO is the acronym for Environment & Community Hope Organization STORE. In one place, you can get everything you need to start you on your way to living a sustainable lifestyle. All their products are eco friendly eco-friendly, non-toxic, natural or organic and biodegradable. Now I’m really thinking of visiting their store and I just might buy Christmas gift baskets at Echo Store.
