Poverty is a State of Mind

Manny Villar Talks about his brother, Tondo House and More

Poverty is a very real and critical issue facing people and this is not just here in our country.  This is a global issue that we cannot no longer ignore.  Poverty is a state of mind, not the state of  someone else’s bank account.  Poverty is also not the texture of the thread you are wearing, where you live, what car you drive and what kind of friends you have.

Even if you win the lottery but your mindset never changed then unfortunately you are still stuck in the poverty state of mind.  Some people say that once you get lucky and you can get out of poverty then you can be truly happy.   But I say that you also need to overcome the mental poverty of people around you.   The lies, the envy, the intrigue that goes with all of that.  Socio-economic class stature is not determined by gross income or the kind of house one lives in.

A great example that I see is that with the campaign of Senator Manny Villar they tried to make him relatable to the masses by telling them that Hey I was one of you and I did it.  I was able to get out of poverty and so can you.  His critics lashed out at him and said maybe you were poor but you weren’t poor enough. In fact GMANews.TV reports Manny Villar as middle class. Which was really crazy because how poor does the Villar family have to be?

The nastiness of the election is taking it’s toll on everyone and the candidate’s family is not spared. Villar’s family was so upset about all the intrigues that they felt that a response to Manny Villar family socio-economic status by Nanay Curing was in order.  Noynoy is accused of using his parents legacy as a platform to the point that people are now thinking that a vote for Noynoy is a vote for his parents.  Some are also quick to assume that Kris Aquino will assume the role of First Lady.

To be honest this election is turning into a big circus and everyone wants to be the ring leader in the process they end up looking like clowns. The gross income of a candidate shouldn’t be the basis when it comes to voting a great leader. It shouldn’t be a factor because truth to be told there are some things that money can’t buy like Talent, Leadership, Decency and Breeding to name a few.

Poverty is described as the state of being extremely poor, but it’s also the state of being “insufficient in amount.”   For me the poverty just means tha there is discontentment.  It’s not so much as you don’t have money but the feeling of not having enough of it. We want it so much and when have it we want to have more of it.  It’s always never enough and we start to do really crazy things like lie, cheat, steal and in worst case scenarios kill. Because of that discontentment we always seem to chase things that others have,  buy things that we cannot afford so that we can keep up.
