Saying Goodbye to my Lola

My Paternal grandmother Lola Rosita passed away last July 22,2010.I went to Dipolog to see her for the last time. It’s a very and difficult time for our family. She was really very strict and very straightforward if she likes then she really likes you if its otherwise it will be wise to run to the other direction. I wasn’t really close to her because she lived in Dipolog and I lived in Manila. But whenever I would go to Dipolog I would make it a point to touch base with her. I was glad that she was there during my wedding day and she gave Philbert her seal of approval. Continue reading »

The Ghost Writer

An unremarkable ghost-writer has landed a lucrative contract to redact the memoirs of Adam Lang, the former UK Prime Minister. After dominating British politics for years, Lang has retired with his wife to the USA.

He lives on an island, in luxurious, isolated premises complete with a security detail and a secretarial staff. Soon, Adam Lang gets embroiled in a major scandal with international ramifications that reveals how far he was ready to go in order to nurture UK’s “special relationship” with the USA.

But before this controversy has started, before even he has closed the deal with the publisher, the ghost-writer gets unmistakable signs that the turgid draft he is tasked to put into shape inexplicably constitutes highly sensitive material.

Business groups back Consensus Bill on Population

Why is the business   sector becoming involved in a population bill? Don’t they want more people to have more customers for their business? “Yes, we would like to have more customers, but we would like to have paying customers. It is not so much the number of people. It is the

quality of people that we need to have,” said Mr. Vicente Paterno, a businessman and former legislator who now chairs the Joint Steering Committee (JSC) on a Consensus Bill on Population (CBP) during the Cebu consultation on the proposed bill on July 2, 2010.  The JSC was created to guide the group efforts for a CBP.

A CBP aims to raise the family’s human capital, enable them to seek more remunerative employment, and break the poverty trap. “The business groups want to increase the human capital of this country because we are in competition with the rest of the world. If we have 40% of our population not able to join in this competition for skills or brains or abilities, we lose out,” Mr. Paterno explained. Continue reading »

At the heels of the phenomenal vampire tales come “Vampires Suck,” a parody of today’s hit teen flick from the outrageous minds of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer (“Date Movie,” “Epic Movie”). “Vampires Suck” pools together talented comics headed by Ken Jeong (“Hangover”) with Matt Latner, Jenn Proske and Chris Riggi. The movie bites when Becca (Proske) finds herself in the midst of vampire-human-wolf love triangle, taking her deeper into teen angst and romance as she decides between Edward Sullen
(Latner) the vampire and Jacob (Riggi) the werewolf. In the midst of being torn and before she finally decides between Edward and Jacob, Becca must get around her controlling father who manages to embarrass her at all times.

Thanks to her set of friends who make her feel normal while contending with their own teen romantic issues headed for a smash in their most awaited prom. “Vampires Suck” opens very soon in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt

Columbia Pictures’ new, contemporary spy thriller SALT, starringAngelina Jolie, began life with an offhand comment Jolie made a few years ago. “I was meeting with (Sony Pictures Co-Chairman) Amy Pascal when it came up in conversation that she was getting ready to make one of the new James Bond films,” Jolie remembers. “I playfully said, ‘I want to be Bond!’ That was our little joke, and then she found this project.”
