Never-Never Land is Back! Jake and the Never Land Pirates a Hit on Disney Junior
Many of us grew up knowing about the wonders of Never Land—Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and the Lost Boys took Wendy and her siblings to great adventures, and we all gleefully tagged along. Who could forget the fearsome yet silly Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, and the funny Tick Tock the Crocodile who always tried to eat Hook?
Generations have come to know and love these memorable Disney characters, and now, Disney Junior has introduced a whole new side of Never Land to new and old fans alike with Jake and the Never Land Pirates, everyday at 1PM only on Disney Junior.
If Peter Pan had the Lost Boys, and Captain Hook had his adult pirates, shouldn’t there be kid pirates? Apparently there are! Jake and the Never Land Pirates are a bunch of rag-tag pirates who, interestingly enough, are friends with Peter Pan. Jake, the leader of the group, wields a wooden sword given to him by Peter Pan, and is Captain Hook’s rival pirate.
Jake’s pirate friends include Izzy, the only girl pirate in Never Land, who has a small sack of pixie dust given to her by Tinker Bell and her fairy friends; Cubby, the youngest of the group and who always says “Aw, coconuts!” when something goes wrong; and Skully, a small green parrot who follows the Never Land Pirates and keeps a lookout for Captain Hook and Mr. Smee.
In this Never-Never Land, it is years later, and Captain Hook, who has always been a terrible leader, has a hard time holding on to his crew. He is only left with three men—Sharky and Bones, who are more musicians than pirates, and Mr. Smee, whom Hook can never do without.
And if you remember when we were shown the first glimpse of Never Land, you’ll remember that there were mermaids in the sea, who usually flirted and were downright mean to Peter Pan at times. In today’s Never Land, the mermaids are still swimming about at NeverSea, and Marina the Mermaid is one of them.
Marina lives in the ocean where Jake and his friends usually sail at, but unlike the other mermaids, Marina is kind and gentle, often showing Jake and the Never Land Pirates many secrets of NeverSea. You might think that she may have a little crush on Jake!
Of course, Never Land isn’t complete without old Tick Tock! Tick Tock the Crocodile is one of Hook’s most feared enemies and gymnastics grips, ever since he ate Captain Hook’s hand after Peter Pan cut it off. Tick Tock liked the taste of Hook’s hand so much that he still follows the Jolly Roger, Hook’s boat, in the hopes of eating the rest of Captain Hook—with the alarm clock he swallowed years earlier still ticking and scaring the Captain.
Jake and the Never Land Pirates are always on the lookout for new adventures, with Captain Hook following them around hoping to steal valuable items from the young pirates. And every time Jake and his pirates get back what was taken from them, they would usually find treasure—counting gold doubloons after defeating Hook and his gang.
While Peter Pan whisked Wendy, her brothers and sisters back to London and away from Never-Never Land, today’s kids have the chance of seeing Never Land for the first time with Jake and the Never Land Pirates. And who knows, maybe in a few years, they’ll be the ones shouting directions to that mystical place, “First star to the right, and straight on til’ morning!”
